Über die Veranstaltung

Presenter: Dr. Claudia Launhardt

Language: English

Host: German Council Pacific Coast

This presentation examines the complex relationship between Germans and Indigenous Peoples of North America, contrasting a romanticized, Karl May-inspired cultural obsession with the harsh realities of historical exploitation and colonial fantasies. The lecture will also look into the exploitation of Indigenous North American culture, by using cultural ethical and artistic elements for building the fascist ideologies of the Nazi Germany.

It argues for moving beyond stereotypes of "Noble Savages" to foster a respectful dialogue on contemporary Indigenous self-determination.
