Some preach health or success, others wealth or beauty. It’s easy to get lost in the jungle of almost unlimited offers of meaning.
Which promises of salvation are misleading? Which of the paths offered to me really lead to life, are from God? The 1st Sunday after Trinity encourages us to remain attentive to the voice of God among the many voices around us. There are listening aids for this: the words and works of Jesus, the testimony of Moses and the prophets, a confession that holds fast to God alone and asks about God’s will. Whoever follows this attentively – and does not flee from difficulties like Jonah – walks the path of love that fearlessly and generously turns to the other.
