“Whatever you did to one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did to me,” says the parable of the Last Judgment. The week’s verse places the lasting connection with Christ alongside the horizon of judgment: “If we live, we live to the Lord; if we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore, if we live or die, we are the Lord’s”. The penultimate Sunday of the church year is usually celebrated in Germany as Peace Sunday or Day of Mourning.
