Liebe Gemeinde, liebe Freunde,

Laβ uns in dir ruhen.

March 2021

“Praise the Lord, my soul. Praise the Lord.” Psalm 104,21b

Dear Friends,

As I am sitting over the newsletter, it is one of the sunnier days of February. The temperature has climbed into double digits and I have the window open (just a tiny bit!). A chickadee is singing in front of my window, claiming her territory. I see hummingbirds buzzing around the evergreen in the front-yard.

Last weekend out at Reifel there were the first signs of spring: snow bells in full bloom, daffodils pushing the blossoms up through the stems, the first buds are building on the trees and the first birds are sitting on nests. Yes, birds on nests in February!! The Anna’s hummingbirds have become feisty and territorial around the feeders. We see them chasing each other in high speeds around the yard and I am just waiting to be stabbed by one, because I accidentally stepped into their way.

Spring is in the air – it is not yet, the smell or the temperature, but the sound. The birds are now singing different songs than throughout the winter. Marsh Wrens are claiming their nesting places, the cranes have started purring and that means mating is in the air. The first House Sparrows are investigating the cleaned nest-boxes.

And as nature around us moves into “Spring mood” – I can feel that it lifts up my spirits as well. As nerve-wrecking as the territorial call of the Chickadee – an ongoing “deeeeeeeeeee- deeeeeeeeee” is, it also announces a new season, new hope.

No – Spring is not here quite yet, I know. The next days promise rain and dropping temperatures all over again, and yet, it seems tangible for a moment that things are changing, it gives a fresh outlook with lifted spirits.

And – it calls me to praise God. Psalm 104 is one of the most beautiful praises of God and his creation. I have been reading it these days – and singing in my head with the beautiful melodies and texts I know from the German Hymnal. It invites me to join the song of the birds, the beginning buzz of flying insects. It almost calls me to press up my own blossoms like the daffodils do along the trails.

We are in the time of Lent and in the middle of a nerve-wrecking pandemic – often isolated and alone. If you need something uplifting these days – open your window on a sunny day – listen to the voices outside, the songs, the buzzing, the chatting. Keep your eyes open to find the blossoms and buds breaking forth. Spring is coming – and so are better times, in which we can re-gather and get together again. I am positive, nature just reminded me of it.

In His Love,
Kristina Breit

COVID-UPDATE

Dear Members and Friends,

in the last meeting of the Church Council, we discussed on how to move forward with our AGM. The BC Registrar has put special orders in place, which allow us to defer our AGM or to hold it in alternative ways. We have decided to defer the AGM at this point – hoping that we can gather again in the months to come and then hold the AGM as required.

As soon as we are able to re-gather as congregation, council will re-consider a date for the AGM.

As we are currently still awaiting further decisions from the health authority, we have decided to await the new instructions. The church will stay closed at least including the weekend of March 15th . This is even if we are allowed to re-gather, because would allow us to get everything in place and ready.

At the next council meeting, we will re-visit the topic and consider the instructions received from the authorities. If the authorities decide that closures continue past March 15th, we will adhere to that and continue with our closure as well.

Meanwhile we will continue to bring you online-devotions. Please feel free to contact us with your concerns and if you need to talk to someone. We know it is a tough and challenging time for everyone.

Stay safe and healthy! God Bless you,

For the church council, Pastor Kristina Breit
