Liebe Gemeinde, liebe Freunde,

Gedanken zum Sommer

Der Sommer ist der Monat der Fülle und des Lichtes. Jedes mal, wenn ich Gelegenheit habe in die Natur zu gehen, erfüllen mich die Spaziergänge oder Wanderungen mit großer Dankbarkeit und Freude. In meinem Herzen danke ich Gott für die schönen Bäume in unserem Trout Lake Park, die jetzt wieder in vollem Laub stehen. Ich danke Gott für das Grün, das sich wie ein Teppich über unsere Erde legt, für die vielen bunten Blumen, die unser Auge erfreuen, für das Blühen und Gedeihen, das uns umgibt.

Während unseres Besuches in Deutschland war es der Gesang der Vögel, der uns jeden Morgen geweckt hat und daran erinnerte, wie schön doch alles in unser Welt eingerichtet ist. Schön war es wieder einmal den Ruf des Kuckucks und den Gesang der Nachtigall zu hören. Ich danke Gott für den rauschenden Bach im Sommer, für der Frische, die das klare Wasser ausstrahlt und für den blauen Himmel, der sich wie ein schützendes Zelt über uns wölbt. Für die Sonne, die unsere Körper und Herzen hell macht und erwärmt. Für den Regen, der unsere Erde tränkt und den Durst von Tieren, Blumen und Pflanzen stillt.

Wie ist das wunderbar, das alles mit unseren Sinnen wahrnehmen und aufnehmen zu können. Danke, Gott. Danke für jeden Tag, den uns dieser Sommer schenkt. Danke, dass wir die Spuren deiner Liebe im Bilderbuch deiner Schöpfung wahrnehmen dürfen. Danke für unser Leben, danke für diesen Sommer, der gerade begonnen hat. Schenke uns viele Sommer, in denen wir uns an den Werken deiner Schöpfung erfreuen dürfen.

Segen zur Sommerzeit

Gott segne die Blumen an deinem Lebensweg,
ihre Farbe soll dich frohmachen,
ihr Duft soll dich trösten,
ihre Beständigkeit soll dir Frieden bringen.

Gott sende dir viele Blumen,
dass dein Vertrauen wachse,
dass deine Hoffnung bestehe,
dass deine Liebe blühe.

Gott gebe deinem Leben die Kraft zu blühen,
Liebe zu verschenke,
Freude weiterzutragen,
Hoffnung zu wecken.
Der Segen des lebendigen Gottes sei mit dir.

Urlaub Pastorin Breit

Vom 31.August bis 14.September und voraussichtlich vom 25.September bis 2.Oktober befindet sich Pastorin Breit im Urlaub.

Gott und die Welt

Am Dienstag, dem 10.September, lädt Pastor Ermisch zu einem Gespräch im Erdgeschoss der Kirche ein.

Das Thema ist “Warum läßt Gott Leid zu?” – Sinn finden in einer heillosen Welt. Beginn: 10:30 Uhr

Autorengespräch: “Love in Northern Rapids” – 27.September 10:30 Uhr im Erdgeschoss der Kirche

“Love in Northern Rapids recounts canoe trips over more than a dozen years on many arctic rivers and on the Beaufort Sea, as well as the Inside Passages (in both B.C. and Alaska), the Sea of Cortez, and other waterways. Freda’s tales of wilderness exploration will entertain experienced recreationalists as well as armchair adventurers – for the places she describes are so remote that they are visited by very few. Woven into the stories are the couple’s ups and downs of their growing relationship.
At age sixty-two, seven years a widow, the author met Ted Mellenthin, an enthusiastic whitewater paddler of the same age who brought along a canoe on their very first date. The adventurous pair hit it off immediately, and Ted started to teach Freda the first basic paddling strokes.
In the summer of 1999, only months after that first blind date, Freda and Ted set out on their first canoe expedition – into the Canadian Arctic. They paddled 1200 kilometres in six weeks, from northeast of Yellowknife, in the Northwest Territories, to Baker Lake, in Nunavut. Despite run-ins with wildlife, dangerous whitewater, and punishing portages, they were soon planning their next adventure.”(Freda Mellenthin)

Frau Mellenthin stellt uns ihr Buch vor und wird uns einen ihrer 18 Erlebnisberichte mit Hilfe von vielen Dias in deutscher Sprache nach dem deutschen Gottesdienst präsentieren. Freda Mellenthin (früher Starck) war über viele Jahre Mitglied unserer Gemeinde und arbeitete sechs Jahre lang im Kirchenvorstand.

Literaturkreis

Wir treffen uns am 29.September um 19:30 Uhr. Pastor Ermisch wird das Buch “Die Frauen der Genies” von Friedrich Weissensteiner besprechen.

Männerfrühstück

Am 18.Juli, 15.August und 19.September treffen sich die Männer um 7:00 Uhr im Erdgeschoss der Kirche.

Im Juli wird Pastorin Breit die Gastsprecherin sein.

„Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill
the law of Christ.” (Gal. 6:2)

Dear Friends,

During the preparation of this newsletter we have celebrated a service of praise and thanksgiving in and with the English Congregation. We celebrated this service with the one-year-anniversary approaching of the cancer diagnosis of one of our sisters in Christ. In the service she had the opportunity to give witness about this time and God’s work in her life throughout this last year; a year filled with surgeries, treatments, doctor appointments and uncountable ups and downs. But as well a year filled, as she put it, filled with the witness of God’s love through the love and care she received through others – through fellow believers: meals, cards, encouragement and, last but not least, prayers.

Throughout this year we have shared her burden, and through the burden we have shared with her, we have learned to share more of our own burdens with each other as well. Before we join together in prayer, we share our prayer requests; a new way of watching out and caring for each other has grown among us, has build new bridges between the English and the German congregation. …

As she still faces an uncertain future, we will continue to do, what Paul calls us to: “Carry each other’s burdens, and you will fulfill the law of Christ.” The law of Christ is simple: “Love each other as I have loved you!” (John 15:12). This is what Jesus leaves his disciples as the “new” commandment. And he speaks of joy that comes with this love, a joy that might be complete. Joy is different than happiness. Somebody said: Happiness is something that “happens” to you, joy is your choice. I would like to encourage you to continue this path of joy, this path of growth and this path of fulfilling the law of Christ – so that our joy might be complete.

ANNOUNCEMENTSFirst Sunday of the month – We celebrate Holy Communion during the service and share a potluck meal after the service. Come and join us for worship and enjoy our time together. 

Sunday School –

We continue to offer Sunday School during the German Service throughout the Summer Holidays.

English service during the summer months

During the summer months (July/August) we will celebrate the English services with a shortened and simpler liturgy. This will give us the opportunity to be a bit more flexible with musical arrangements, creative elements and a higher level of active participation for children during the service (There will be no Sunday School during the English Service in the months July and August.).

Operation Christmas Child

As every year we would like to invite you to participate in the “Operation Christmas Child”. Last year we were able to send off 37 shoe boxes with Christmas Gifts for children in need.

To participate you simply decide the gender (boy/girl), and the age (2-4/5-9/10-14 years) of the child you would like to receive your gift. Then you select a regular size shoebox and fill it with items that this child would enjoy. You can slowly collect items or fill the box shortly before the drop-off date. Flyers with ideas and more information will be provided in the entrance hall of the church.

Drop off date this year: November 15th – 18th at the Sunday School House

GROUP MEETINGS
