Liebe Gemeinde, liebe Freunde,

Wir wünschen einander gern ein “gesegnetes Weihnachtsfest”. Aber was ist das? Was meinen wir damit?

Was ist der Unterschied zwischen “Frohe Weihnachten” und “Gesegnete Weihnachten”?

Ich weiss nicht, woran Sie dabei denken und ob es überhaupt für Sie einen Unterschied gibt.

Für mich sprechen die Worte “Gesegnete Weihnachten” mehr als andere Weihnachtswünsche von der Gegenwart Gottes in diesem Fest. Diese Worte sind für mich ein besonderer Gruß zu einem besonderen Fest.

Das Wort “gesegnet” bindet Gott ganz direkt ein in den Gruß und ich gebe Gott so weiter an Menschen, die mir lieb und wichtig sind. Ich möchte meine Lieben eingebunden sehen in den Segen, der von dieser Heiligen Nacht ausgeht. Gott ist sichtbar und fassbar in Christus zu uns gekommen. Der Segen besteht darin, dass in Jesus Gottes Liebe Hand und Fuß, sowie eine unverkennbare Stimme bekommen hat.

Uralte Prophezeiungen erfüllen sich. “Das Volk, das im Finstern wandelt, sieht ein großes Licht und über denen, die da wohnen im finstern Lande, scheint es hell.” (Jesaja 9,1).

Wo Gottes Segen ist, da wird es hell. Darum “Gesegnete Weihnachten” Ihnen allen!

Jesus, das göttliche Kind,
das Maria im Stall geboren hat,
möge uns segnen
mit dem Licht, das die Nacht der Zukunft erhellt!

Jesus, das göttliche Kind,
das in unseren Herzen geboren ist,
möge uns segnen
mit der Wärme, die unseren Leib
und unsere Seele heilt!

Jesus, das göttliche Kind,
das jeden Morgen in uns neu erwacht,
möge uns segnen
mit dem Blick, der die Menschen nah und fern
mit Frieden erfüllt!

Freud und Leid
Das Sakrament der Heiligen Taufe empfing Aidan James Clark. Möge der Herr den Lebensweg des Kindes segnen und Eltern, Paten und Großeltern Weisheit geben, ihm im lebendigen Glauben an Jesus Christus Vorbild zu sein.

Aus diesem Leben abberufen wurden Frau Ellen Hvam, Herr Hans Rüger, Herr Peter Tjaden, Frau Leonie Bedford, Frau Gerda Kowallek, Herr Richard Nast und Herr Rolf Boehne. Wir bitten den Herrn, die Verstorbenen in Gnaden anzunehmen und ihre trauernden Angehörigen mit dem Mantel seines Trostes zu umhüllen.

4.Dezember – Gottesdienst zum 2.Advent mit adventlicher Bläsermusik gespielt von den „Edelweissmusikanten“

6.Dezember – 14:00 Uhr Gemeindeweihnachtsfeier im Erdgeschoss der Kirche mit Weihnachtsgeschichten und Weihnachtsliedern. Wir würden uns freuen, wenn zum anschließenden Kaffeetrinken weihnachtliches Gebäck oder andere Leckereien mitgebracht werden könnte.

11.Dezember – 9:30 Uhr Deutsch-englischer Gottesdienst mit einem Weihnachtsprogramm der Sonntagsschulkinder. Anschließend Kaffee und Kuchenverkauf.

Lutherbibel 2017 – jetzt kostenlos als App erhältlich

Mit dem Lutherjubiläum, das am Reformationstag in Deutschland begonnen hat, ist auch die Lutherbibel in neuer Überarbeitung veröffentlicht worden. Diese ist jetzt als App für Smartphones erhältlich und läuft auf allen Apple Geräten ab IOS 10 sowie auf Android Geräten ab Android 4. Diese App ist bis zum Reformationstag 2017 kostenlos zu erhalten, danach wird sie kostenpflichtig. Wer Interesse daran hat, kann sie sich durch den Apple Store oder den Google Play-Store auf Smartphone oder Tablet runter laden. Name des Apps: Luther 2017.

And the Angel said to them: “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.”(Luke 2:10)

Dear friends,

When I thought about these verses a year ago I wrote: “I am always touched by the first words “Fear not!” – We live in a time where so many people are afraid, live a life of fear. On Christmas night the Angel says: “Fear not! (For I have good news!)” … The good news will be that a savior is born to us. Not the self-announced saviours we hear of every day in our news – a real savior, one who actually cares about us and our well-being, one from whom is said, he is the King of Peace, a mighty counsellor.”

In the last days and weeks the news was filled with leaders who announce themselves as “saviours”. WE find them spread all over the world. At the same time, those saviors often do not keep what they promise. They do not really care about the problems, needs and worries of the people.

When we look at the Christmas Story, we are reminded, that the Christmas story is embedded in a world in which those who consider themselves saviors and lords, in which those who promise salvation, bring injustice, fear and suffering. It is the great irony that the leaders of that time, considered themselves exactly that: Saviors, Lords, Gods.

But the Christmas story also tells us: God is the one who is in charge. The great twist in the history is, that the one that no one would even consider to be in charge, actually is in control. It is the paradox that God does not come as we wish he would: with might, with power and thunder, but as a small child in the manger. In a world of fear and suffering, the most powerful message is said to the shepherds and through them to us: “A savior is born! – For you!” And we are reminded this savior is “God with us” – “Immanuel”. God does not come as the self announced saviors of the world, but he comes to bring and spread and share the biggest power of this world: love, humbleness and kindness.

In a world that is torn apart by hate and mistrust, prejudice, judgement and self-centeredness, God invites us, to make a difference by sharing his love, by offering open doors, by opening our hearts, by showing compassion and kindness. God invites us to share ourselves with others. The great truth about this: everyone can do this. Nobody is too small, no-one to weak, no-one to poor. It is for everyone.

I wish you that your Christmas is not filled with fear, but with love, with kindness and compassion. That you discover how rich God makes us by not coming as the powerful king, but as the little child, filled with love. I wish for all of you that the Good News of Christmas would fill your hearts: We are not left alone with this world, God has not forgotten about us, but he comes: For behold a saviour is born, he is Christ the LORD; God with us.

Every first Sunday of the month is our English Communion Service with Potluck Lunch following the service.

Christmas Bazaar is on November 26th – 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Missions Fest
The Annual Missions Fest Vancouver is held on January 27-29 at the Convention Center, 999 Canada Place. Conference Title: “Justice and the Gospel”. More information on http://www.missionsfestvancouver.ca/2017-conference/ or through the information material in our entrance hall.

Missions Fest Vancouver also has once again a Special Project. This year Missions Fest in coordination with the Mennonite Central Committee is collecting Relief Kits to provide practical help to those affected by a crisis. Each relief kit should contain: 4 large bars bath soap, 4 adults-size toothbrushes, 1 box adhesive bandages (mind. 40count, assorted), 1 plastic shampoo bottle (place in Ziploc bag), 1 fingernail clipper, 1 package sanitary pads (18-24 count, thin maxi). If you cannot bring a fill kit, drop off one or two of the items mentioned, so that those might be added to incomplete kits.
Place all items in a bag and drop off either at the Missions Fest or before January 27th at the Sunday School House.

With the start of the Anniversary celebrations: 500 years Reformation, a new translation of the German “Luther-Bible” has been published. It is now available as an app in the I-tunes store and Google-Play Store for download onto tablets and smartphones. Search for “Luther 2017”. It will be free of charge until Reformation-Day 2017, when the celebrations of the Anniversary are wrapped up.

GROUP MEETINGS

English Bible Study meets on December 20th (we meet at 6pm for a Christmas Dinner!) and on January 17h. Join us on our journey through the Bible: each meeting we explore one book of the Bible, including its historical background and its message for our lives.
