Sonntag

Liebe Gemeinde, liebe Freunde,

Auch wenn die Öffnungen der Geschäfte an einem Sonntag in Nordamerika schon lange kein Thema mehr sind, lohnt sich doch ein Nachdenken über den Sinn des Sonntags, weil unsere Gestaltung dieses Tages viel darüber verrät, wer wir sind und was uns wichtig ist.

„Heutzutage scheint der Sonntag zum Abfalleimer der Woche geworden zu sein, schön getrennt nach Werkstoff und Restmüll. Sonntagskleider ziehen nur noch Rückständige an, die sich auch damit gegen den Niedergang dieses Tages wehren. Aus Gründen des globalen Wettbewerbs müssen Sonntage verschwinden. Hier sind uns die Asiaten überlegen, die diesen Bremsweg zur Gewinnmaximierung nicht kennen.“ Mancher fragt sich, wie lange unsere Gesellschaft noch Kräfte hat, die die totale Übernahme durch die Konsumgesellschaft aufhalten können.

Einen Juden erkennt man bis heute daran, dass er den Sabbat hält, komme, was da wolle. Die ganze Schöpfung ziehlt auf diesen Ruhetag Gottes. Für Christen ist der siebte Tag seit der Auferstehung Jesu ein erster Vorgeschmack eines neuen Himmels und einer neuen Erde.

Aber ist nicht gerade Jesus derjenige, der diesen siebten Tag bricht? Bekanntlich heilt er an diesem Tag (Markus 3,1-6). Hätte er sein heilendes Wort nicht auch einen Tag später sprechen können? Musste die Muskelatrophie an diesem heiligen Tag geheilt werden? Jesu Antwort ist ein deutliches Ja! Am Ruhetag musste das Zeichen gesetzt werden, was Gott mit diesem Tag will: Leben erhalten. Der Gott der Väter und Mütter Israels, der Vater Jesu Christi ist ein Liebhaber des Lebens. Darum ist der Ruhetag ein Gotteszeichen zur Heilung des ganzen Menschen. Darum ist er auch der Verfügungsgewalt der Menschen entnommen.

Es ist gut möglich, dass die Gottesdienste in Zukunft immer mehr als Protestversammlungen für das Leben verstanden werden, für das Aufatmendürfen aller Menschen und nicht zuletzt für den verantwortlichen Umgang mit unserer Gesundheit an Leib und Seele. Ein Leib und eine Seele, die nicht mehr zur Ruhe kommen, werden krank. Ganz zu schweigen von den Folgen spiritueller und geistlicher Unterernährung. Vom Gottesdienst geht Sonntag für Sonntag für Leib, Seele und Geist neu Heilung aus, solange wir Gott Raum geben uns sein heilsames Wort zu sagen.

Mit der zunehmenden Einebnung des Sonntages demonstriert unsere Gesellschaft nicht nur ihren kranken Zustand, sondern auch die Erstorbenheit der Herzen. Ich denke, dass wir alle gewinnen würden, wenn wir den Sonntag wieder zum Tag des Lebens werden lassen würden.

„Wohl dem, der nicht wandelt im Rat der Gottlosen“, der von Konsum und Profitgier Zerfessenen. Wohl dem, der Freude hat am Wort des Herrn und sich Zeit nimmt darüber nachzusinnen. „Der ist wie ein Baum gepflanzt an den Wasserbächen,…..und seine Blätter verwelken nicht“ (nach Psalm 1).

So kann es sein. Die Entscheidung liegt bei uns.

Bekanntmachungen

Freud und Leid
Das Sakrament der Heiligen Taufe empfingen Lily Weiss und Marisa Henschel. Möge der Herr den Lebensweg der Kinder segnen und Eltern, Paten und Großeltern Weisheit geben, ihnen im lebendigen Glauben an Jesus Christus Vorbild zu sein.

Aus diesem Leben abberufen wurden Herr Reinhard Pfister und Herr Gerhard Werner. Wir bitten den Herrn, die Verstorbenen in Gnaden anzunehmen und die trauernden Familien mit dem Mantel seines Trostes zu umhüllen.

Jahreshauptversammlung
Unsere Jahreshauptversammlung ist am 27.Februar nach einem deutsch-englischen Gottesdienst, der um 9:30 Uhr beginnt. Nach der Versammlung gibt es ein von Herrn Pohl vorbereitetes Lunch für einen Unkostenbeitrag von $ 8.00 pro Person.

50 Jahre St. Markusgemeinde
Wir haben diesem Brief ein Informationsblatt bezüglich des geplanten Festessens anläßlich unserer Jubiläumsfeier beigelegt. Diese Informationen sollen Ihrer persönlichen Planung dienen und können gerne auch an Freunde weitergereicht werden. Jeder ist herzlich willkommen. Der im April beginnende Vorverkauf der Tickets ist notwendig für unsere Planung, wofür wir Ihr Verständnis erhoffen.

Bitte vergessen Sie nicht zu den Fototerminen für das neue bebilderte Gemeindeverzeichnis, für die Sie sich eingetragen haben, an den folgenden Tagen zu kommen: 14., 15. und 28. Februar sowie 1. und 2. März.

„Gott und die Welt – Glaube im Alltag“ II

Die gute Teilnahme im Oktober 2010 hat mich ermutigt, zu einer weiteren Gesprächsreihe einzuladen. Wie auch im Oktober sind Sie herzlich eingeladen, zum Lunch zu bleiben. Jeder wird gebeten, sich sein Sandwich (oder anderes) mitzubringen. Getränke werden breitgestellt.

Themapredigt
Mehrfach bin ich angesprochen worden, ob ich nicht hin und wieder zu bestimmten Themen eine Predigt halten könnte. Beginnend im Februar werde ich an den Kuchenverkaufssonntagen zu einem bestimmten Thema zu predigen. Ausnahmen sind natürlich nicht ausgeschlossen.

Let us tell God about our wrong ways. God can be trusted. He does what is right. He will forgive us for the wrong things we have done. He will make us clean from all that was wrong. I John 1:9

Dear friends,

“I’m too tired. I don’t have the time. I don’t feel motivated. I’d rather do nothing. I don’t have the money, equipment, space. I can’t because …” – We all use excuses – everyday almost all the time. Sometimes we do it on purpose – sometimes we do not even recognize them anymore because we got so used to them. What was the last time you said: “I will do it” or “it was me – I did it wrong” rather than to use an excuse.
The upcoming time of lent invites us again to renounce certain things during the fast. One possibility is to face the challenge to live without excuses – at least for the 7 weeks of lent. The time of lent reminds us that we can talk about the wrong ways we took because God is full of grace and forgiveness. He wants to transform our lives. But transformation only can take place when we look honestly at our lives, when we don’t cling to excuses any more but face the challenges of our lives by trusting in God’s guidance and help.
He will help us to deal with the new responsibilities and to find solutions to the challenges. We can discover new goals for our lives – goals God has prepared for us; and he wants to connect us with others – so that we discover that we don’t have to do it alone. There are others with us on the way – HE is with us on the way.

The time of lent reminds us over and over again that Jesus walked his path without excuses, that he faced his challenges, that he walked his path – even to the end of his life on the cross. His way shows us that nobody has walk alone – that God is with us.
He shows us that living without excuses is a life of love. It’s an act of love not to sneak away with excuses. It is an act of love to stand up for the things I’ve done wrong, where I have hurt others. To live without excuses means to say: I did it. I am sorry. – It invites us to say: I’ll be there.  It is a commitment.

I wish all of us God’s blessings for the experience to live without excuses – the experience to be transformed by God.

Our Annual General Meeting is on February27th 
We will start with a Combined Service at 9:30am and will continue with the meeting at 11:00am downstairs in the church basement.  There are some very important decisions to make…  Be sure to come!!! Lunch after the meeting is provided by Mr. Pohl for $ 6.00.

The English Service welcomes you to their potluck lunch on every first Sunday of the month on February 6th and March 6th.
On these Sundays we also offer German Sunday school during the English Service.

On March 6th we will have a Contemporary Service. Michael Meszaros and his band will join us on this Sunday and we will celebrate Holy Communion. For further announcements please check the website and the bulletins.

For the 50th anniversary of our congregation we want to create a new picture directory of our members. The dates for the photo shootings are February 14th and 15th and February 28th, March 1st and March 2nd. The sign up for the photo shooting is possible after the Sunday Services.

Because of the anniversary Pastor Breit still looks for pictures showing the life of the church in the present and the past. Whoever can offer pictures please email or call Pastor Breit (604-435-5950). Please add your name to the pictures so that we can return the pictures to the owners.

Young Families – Meet on February 5th and March 5th.

Young Adult Bible Study meets on every first and third Wednesday of the month learning & growing in our faith by discovering the letters of John. We meet on February 2nd and 16th , March 2nd and March 16th.

College and Career Bible Study meets on every last Wednesday of the month – February 23rd and March 23rd.

Freudenquell Ladies meet every third Monday of the month – February 21st and March 21st.

The Ladies’ Group extends a special invitation to all women to their “Valentine’s Tea” on February 1st at 2:00pm.   Hope to see you there…
