Liebe Gemeinde, liebe Freunde,

Anteilnahme

“Anteilnahme” ist ein schönes deutsches Wort. Aber wie halten wir es damit. Anteilnahme tut mir gut. Für mich ist es eine Form der Nächstenliebe. Jeder ist froh, wenn ein anderer Anteilnahme zeigt. Das betrifft uns alle, egal ob Kind oder Erwachsener. In bestimmten Situationen braucht man Anteilnahme. Sie überbrückt Einsamkeit. Es ist kein Zufall, dass von der britischen Regierung kürzlich ein Ministerium für Einsamkeit geschaffen wurde. Gut, dass damit diese Not wenigsten für ein paar Stunden in den Schalgzeilen war und die Öffentlichkeit darauf aufmerksam machte. Diese Not ist real und gross, trotz und vielleicht auch gerade wegen der intensiven Vernetzung, die zu Lasten der persönlichen Begegnung geht. Joachim Maass schreibt schon 1945 die Zeilen: “Es scheint mir in der heutigen Zeit, da dieses Bewußtsein der Verantwortung für den Mitmenschen so ganz verloren zu gehen droht, von großer Wichtigkeit, der Freundschaft ein Loblied zu singen.” Die Zeiten haben sich nicht geändert und man kann ohne Problem das Wort “Freundschaft” mit dem Wort “Anteilnahme” ersetzen. Es geht um ein menschliches Grundbedürfnis. Wir brauchen es, dass mal jemand vorbei kommt und nach uns fragt. Persönlich und direkt. Nach vielen Menschen fragt niemand. So mancher blüht auf, wenn aufrichtiges Interesse an seiner oder ihrer Person gezeigt wird. Wenn man fragt: „Was machst du denn so?“ oder: „Wie geht es ihnen denn?“ Einsame Menschen freuen sich sichtbar und blühen regelrecht auf, wenn sie das Interesse der anderen spüren.

Plötzlich sieht der Tag anders aus, es wird heller. Ich darf einmal von mir erzählen, mein Gegenüber hört mir zu. Das Zuhören ist das Wichtigste. Zuhören kann man üben. Viele hören sich selbst gern reden. Man muss sich ab und zu ermahnen, dass jetzt der andere dran ist. Und dieser ist vermutlich ganz überrascht, wenn ihm endlich einmal jemand zuhört und er wahrgenommen wird.
Ich lasse mir gern von Leuten aus ihrer Vergangenheit und ihrem Berufsleben erzählen. Da habe ich schon viel gelernt. Das Leben ist immer interessant und ich merke auch, wie es Menschen Freude macht aus ihrem Leben zu erzählen. Meine Gegenüber, eben noch traurig und verbittert, tauen plötzlich auf. Sie strahlen und werden immer lebendiger beim Erzählen. Sie freuen sich. Da kommt Freude ins Leben, nur weil mir jemand ganz echt und ernsthaft Fragen gestellt hat: „Na, und was machst du so?“, „Wie geht es dir eigentlich?“, „Erzähl doch mal aus deinem Leben.“

Erzählen macht Spass, Zuhören auch.
Probieren Sie’s mal aus, wenn sie in einer Gesellschaft sind, oder beim Kirchenkaffee. Gehen sie zu dem, der am Rande steht oder allein sitzt. Sprechen Sie Leute an, mit denen Sie lange nicht geredet haben. Sie werden erstaunt sein.

Wir können uns gegenseitig mit Anteilnahme beschenken. Indem wir den Nächsten wahrnehmen geben wir ihm Bedeutung. Zuweilen erfüllt sich dann auch das bekannte Paulus Wort: “Einer trage des anderen Last, so werdet ihr das Gesetz Christi erfüllen” (Galater 6,2).

Aus diesem Leben abberufen wurden Herr Hilmar Ebel und Frau Inge Gutzmann. Wir bitten den Herrn, die Verstorbenen in Gnaden anzunehmen und ihre trauernden Angehörigen mit dem Mantel seines Trostes zu umhüllen.

Urlaub Pastor Ermisch

Vom 6. bis 11.Februar ist Pastor Ermisch im Urlaub. Er wird von Pastorin Breit vertreten (604 435 5950).

Jahreshauptversammlung

Sie findet statt am 25. Februar. Wir beginnen mit einem deutsch-englischen Gottesdienst um 9:30 Uhr. Danach ist die Versammlung. Anschließend bieten wir ein Lunch an. Der Unkostenbeitrag, den wir dafür erbitten, wird noch bekanntgegeben. 

Valentine’s Tea

Die Frauen laden dazu ein am 19.Februar um 14:00 Uhr im Erdgeschoss der Kirche.

Männerfrühstück

Nach mehr als vier Jahrzehnten stellt das Männerfrühstück unserer Gemeinde seine Arbeit aus altersbedingten Gründen ein.

Am Ende können wir auf viele Jahrzehnte segensreicher Arbeit zurückblicken und Gott Dank sagen für viele schöne Erlebnisse und interessante Vorträge, die von den verschiedenen Gastsprechern – und in den letzten Jahren auch Gastsprecherinnen – gehalten wurden. Das besondere an unserem Männerfrühstück ist, dass es für eine so lange Zeit bestand und interkonfessionelle Begegnungsmöglichkeiten angeboten hat, sowohl im Blick auf die Teilnehmer als auch auf die Gastsprecher. Wir hatten Gastsprecher aus der lutherischen Kirche, der mennonitischen, baptistischen und anglikanischen Kirche. Soweit mir bekannt, gehörten zu den Leitern des Männerfrühstücks Gerhard Becker, Robert Judenhagen, Erich Kunz und Erich Mekelburg, der das Amt am längsten inne hatte. So möchte ich an dieser Stelle Erich Mekelburg im Namen unserer Gemeinde ganz herzlich danken für die 28 Jahre, in denen er unser Männerfrühstück geleitet hat. Solche Treue ist einzigartig und verdient unser aller Dank und Anerkennung.

Zeitumstellung

Bitte denken Sie daran, vor dem Zubettgehen am 10.März die Uhren und vor allen Dingen die Wecker eine Stunde vorzustellen, damit sie am 11.März nicht zu spät zu unserem deutschen Gottesdienst kommen.

Der Literaturkreis trifft sich von jetzt an vormittags um 10:30 Uhr, also am 30.Januar (Alina Brosky „Baba Dunjas letzte Liebe“) und am 27.März.

ZUM VORMERKEN! Bibelwoche im April

Zur Vertiefung unseres Glaubens bieten Pastorin Breit und Pastor Ermisch auch in diesem Jahr eine Bibelwoche vom 9.-13.April an. Wir wollen mit Ihnen über die bekannten „Ich-bin-Worte“ Jesu ins Gespräch kommen. Diese Wort sind verschiedene Selbstaussagen von Jesus von Nazareth, z.B. „Ich bin das Licht der Welt“ Johannes 8,12.

Die Gesprächsrunden beginnen jeweils um 10:30 Uhr. Wir treffen uns im Erdgeschoss der Kirche.

And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. (Gen 1:3+4)

Dear friends,

A few days ago, I read about the creation of light in my Bible reading. A passage, that I never had paid much attention to, until that day.
So, I want to share some thoughts with you: 1) light has to be created. That, what hovers over the world naturally, is darkness. Light is God’s gift to us, to all living creatures on this planet. – 2) God separates light from darkness. He does not eliminate darkness. All living beings need both: light and darkness to function. Just as pure darkness can make sick, so would we become sick, if we are constantly exposed to light. And, it is the existence of both and the separation of both, which helps us to notice light and darkness and helps us to identify them.
This newsletter covers Lent and Easter. In addition to the first verses of the Book of Genesis, read the Easter story as it is written down in the Gospel of John in chapter 20: it starts with “Early on the first day.., when it still was dark,…” Does that sound familiar? Yes, again: The creation of the new “world” starts in darkness. The new that is about to start and to be brought forth by God, starts in darkness – in devastation, suffering, grief, loss… In the darkness that can hit all of us. But this darkness is not the last part of the story. The end of the story is: “He is risen!” – New hope, new life. It is not only Jesus rising from the dead, but the disciples, Mary and other followers rising out of the darkness into a new morning, a new life, a new beginning.

Yes, with Easter darkness is not eliminated, evil is not eradicated, but darkness, evil, suffering have no longer the last word. Easter shows: the story does not end in the darkness.
And yet, Mary, Peter, and all the other disciples need the dawn to fully see, they need to be addressed by the Risen Christ. First in the direct encounter – in hearing him, touching him, seeing him – the new life can break through to them and the darkness subsides.
This is hope for us: Not that we are protected from all darkness, all evil or suffering, but that in the direct encounter with Christ, in his word, in being in contact with him in prayer, meditation, communication, the darkness of our lives can flee, dawn can break and a new light can take over. Just as the sun slowly rises in the morning, as light slowly takes over the day in contrast to the night, it will take time in our faith, our souls for the light to rise and take over. But we can be confident: the light will come. I wish for you, that the Easter season, brings you in contact with God’s light, for us and for the world.

Our Annual General Meeting is on February 25th. 
We will start with a Combined Service at 9:30am and will continue with the meeting at 11:00am downstairs in the church basement. Be sure to come!!! Lunch after the meeting is provided by Mr. Pohl. Costs will be announced.

Dear German and English speaking Members, 

In 2016 the new BC Societies Act came into effect. Among the several changes there are two that have affected us directly. A) The Constitution had to be changed and B) we had to review our By-Laws. The change of the constitution was mandatory and we were advised by the BC Registry Service, that this change can be done without a special resolution by the members. The change consists of the reduction of the constitution to two paragraphs: one which deals with the name and a second one, which deals with the purpose of the society. All other paragraphs had to be moved to the end of the By-Laws. As this change was mandatory, Church Council approved not to hold a vote on this matter but to change our Constitution in the way required. The Constitution now only contains the paragraphs that deal with name and purpose of St. Marks.
The second – larger step – was a review of our By-laws in relation to the new BC Societies Act and the paragraphs that originally were part of the Constitution. At the AGM we will therefore discuss and vote on an amended and revised set of by-laws for St. Marks, which takes into account the changes that came with the new BC Societies Act. A copy of the reviewed By-Laws which shows all changes made plus explanations for each change for better understanding, will be handed out with the Annual Reports on February 11, 18 and 25, 2018before and after the services.
