Gebet vor dem Urlaub

Lieber Herr,

du gibst den Menschen die Zeit ihres Lebens,
Zeit zur freien Verfügung, Zeit für Verpflichtungen.
Ich denke jetzt an die Stunden und Tage der Arbeit,
die ich hinter mich zu bringen habe, und an die Möglichkeiten,
die meine freie Zeit mir bietet.
Nun liegt wieder viel solcher Zeit vor mir, mein Urlaub.
Danke, dass es derartige Zeitstrecken immer wieder gibt.
Du weisst, wie ich mich auf diese Ferien freue, auf die
Stille, auf die Begegnungen mit lieben Menschen.

Sei in diesen Tagen und Wochen bei mir und den Meinen.
Bewahre vor Störungen, Unfall und Krankheit.
Gib geeignetes Wetter und gute Begegnungen,
Zeit zum Schlafen und zum Wachen, Zeit zum Feiern und zum Lachen,
Musik zu hören und zu spielen, unterwegs zu sein zu schönen Zielen,
Zeit zu lesen, anderen zu schreiben, Zeit zu wandern oder an einem Ort zu bleiben.
Lass mich bei allem dich nicht vergessen und die Zeit auch dazu nutzen,
zu beten und in der Bibel zu lesen.

Lass in dieser Urlaubszeit mein Herz ausgehen und Freude suchen und finden. In allem danke ich dir und lobe dich, der du Herr der Zeit, auch meines Urlaubs bist.

Es ist gut zu wissen, dass meine Zeit in deinen Händen steht (Psalm 31,16a). Danke für die Zeit, meine Lebenszeit, die Du mir schenkst. Amen

BEKANNTMACHUNGEN

NEW!! Frühlingsfest am 11.Juni um 11:00 Uhr in der St. MarkuskircheNEW!!

Mit Dankbarkeit schauen wir auf eine jahrzehntelange Picknick-Tradition in Camp Luther zurück. Weil Camp Luther uns zu den gewohnten Zeiten nicht mehr aufnehmen kann, wollen wir in diesem Jahr einmal ein Frühlingsfest in unserer Kirche feiern. Hier hat Herr Pohl auch die äußeren Bedingungen, uns wie gewohnt mit einem Picknick-Büffet zu versorgen. Wir laden Sie also ein zu unserem ersten Frühlingsfest. Wir beginnen um 11:00 Uhr mit einem zweisprachigen Gottesdienst in unserer Kiche. Anschließend steht das Picknick-Büffet für uns im Erdgeschoss bereit. Der Unkostenbeitrag ist $15.00 pro Person. Danach ist fröhliches Beisammensein und Spiele für die Kinder.

Deutschunterricht für deutschsprachige Kinder im Grundschulalter in East Vancouver

Eltern aus unserer Nachbarschaft mit einem Kind im Grundschulalter versuchen, eine Deutschklasse für Kinder in diesem Alter zusammenzustellen. Die Vancouver Westside German School (VWGS) bietet zwar Unterricht im Kitsilanogebiet an, aber vielen Eltern von der Ostseite der Stadt ist es zu weit, in der Rushhour nach dem regulären Schulunterricht ihre Kinder dorthin zu bringen. Im Moment versuchen die Eltern herauszufinden, wie viele Familien an einer Klasse in East Vancouver interessiert wären.

Die Leitung der VWGS ist bereit, ihnen bei der Suche nach Lehrkräften behilflich zu sein, sollte sich eine ausreichende Anzahl von Schülern finden.

Dear Friends,

Sometimes odd things remind us how important it is to keep the right focus. For me it was an experience that came through my volunteer work at the Reifel Bird Sanctuary. On May 8th, a little Sandhill Crane hatched. After 11 days of careful tending by the parents, it died from an infection caused by parasites. I had spent much time, watching the parents and the baby, sharing knowledge with visitors, and there was some sadness when I got the news. But a few hours later, I started to think about my sadness. Was it really the right thing to be disappointed and sad? No. I came to the insight, that there was no reason for disappointment. None of the volunteers or employees seriously had thought of a crane baby just a few months before. The old resident male had died and even when the female crane chose a new male and they started bonding and defending their territory, no one seriously had considered a baby crane would hatch this year. The new young male was too inexperienced, everyone thought. But they made it through the incubation time and eventually there it was – a little yellow fluffy baby crane. Cute as cute can be. Looking back, this little crane was a bonus, more than each one of us had expected and anticipated. Yet, here we were, disappointed and saddened as if it was our guaranteed right to see a baby crane hatch and grow up (leaving aside all the odds, that such a baby would encounter anyways!).

This experience reminded me to really check out my feelings, to consider and review events and their circumstances. There is so much to give thanks for, even if things seem to be not pleasant, life is difficult and challenging or if we encounter tough situations. God wants us to give thanks, so that we do not lose hope. He invites us and commands us to give thanks, because we can give thanks for his presence in our lives, his abiding at our side, his love and faithfulness towards those who put their trust in him. He never leaves us alone, he never leaves us without his love, he never leaves us in darkness and death. The Easter-tide reminds us, that death and darkness have been overcome. No matter how dire the circumstances are, let’s seek for the things to give thanks for.

STRAWBERRY TEA

WE invite all Ladies to join us for the Strawberry Tea of the Ladies Group on June 6th at 2pm.

IMPORTANT NOTICE!!!! – English service during the summer months

During the summer months (July/August) we will again celebrate the English services with a shortened and simpler liturgy. This will give us the opportunity to be more flexible with musical arrangements, creative elements and a higher level of active participation for children during the service.

First Sunday of the month – We celebrate Holy Communion during the service and share a potluck meal after the service. Come and join us for worship and enjoy our time together.
Potluck in July will be July 2nd and on August 6th.

SUNDAY SCHOOL

We continue to offer Sunday School during the German Service throughout the Summer Holidays.
For the English service we will offer no Sunday School in July, but will be back for the month of August.

SPRING CELEBRATION

On June 11th we will have a Spring Celebration at the church instead of our annual Church Picnic at Camp Luther in Mission. We will start with a service at 11am and enjoy a good lunch prepared by Mr. Pohl after that. After lunch, you are invited to Games and fellowship. We ask for a contribution of 15$ per person, to cover the costs of the lunch.

O peration Christmas Child

As every year, we would like to invite you to participate in the “Operation Christmas Child”. Last year we were able to send off 37 shoe boxes with Christmas Gifts for children in need.

To participate you simply decide the gender (boy/girl), and the age (2-4/5-9/10-14 years) of the child you would like to receive your gift. Then take a regular size shoebox and fill it with items that this child would enjoy. You can now start to collect items or fill the box shortly before the drop-off date.
