Pastor Martin Sommer

Pastor Martin Sommer was born in Freiburg, Germany, and studied theology in Basel and Heidelberg.

 

After his ordination in 1989, he served for over two decades in the Baden Regional Church — in Zell im Wiesental, Rheinfelden, and in Neckarburken and the Luther Parish Mosbach-Waldstadt, where he served among other things as Chair of the Church Council and District Coordinator for Mission and Ecumenism. From 2014 to 2019 he also held a half-time position as Education Coordinator for Young Seniors in the Mosbach Church District.

From 2019 to 2025, Martin served as pastor of the German-speaking Evangelical congregation in Hong Kong — a role that deepened his experience in cross-cultural ministry and international church community.

 

He has been living in Vancouver (Richmond) since October 2025 and is now joining St. Mark's as Interim Pastor. We are grateful to have his wealth of pastoral experience and his love for German-speaking Lutheran community life here with us.
